The challenge: worth the drive
Portadown Tiles sell from a showroom, and the showroom is the whole point: people want to see a tile in person before committing a bathroom to it. The problem is the drive.
Customers were arriving having pictured something the shop did not have, or turning up for a range that had sold out. Both cost the customer a trip and the staff a conversation nobody enjoys.
Stock is the root of it. A showroom’s range moves as lines sell through, and a website showing last season’s tiles is worse than no website at all, because it manufactures the disappointment it was meant to prevent.
They also compete with national chains for the same local searches. What Portadown Tiles have that the chains do not is the showroom itself, so the site had to make the trip sound worth taking.
Our approach: show the real stock
The showroom is the whole point, so the site’s job is getting the right people into it.
Visitors browse what is actually in stock before making the drive, which is the difference between arriving to see a tile and arriving to be disappointed. Staff control what appears, so a range that has sold through comes off the website rather than off the customer’s list when they get there.
Alongside that sits a blog on tiles and bathrooms, which brings people in from search long before they are ready to buy anything, and a set of answers to the questions showroom staff field most often.
Prompts to get in touch sit at the points on each page where somebody has just decided they are interested, rather than only in a footer most visitors never reach.
